Sartomer, Arkema Launch Science Teacher Program

Sartomer Americas, in Exton, Pennsylvania, recently launched the Arkema Science Teacher Program by hosting a multi-day event at its West Chester location. Fourth- through sixth-grade teachers who participated in the event chose a themed science kit for their classroom, which includes 17 lessons and a variety of hands-on activities. Sartomer’s scientists worked with the teachers, experimenting with the kits and assisting in the development of their science curriculum for the school year. In addition to the kits themselves, the company donated money so extra supplies could be purchased throughout the year. The event also included a tour of Sartomer’s facility. Bayer MaterialScience Becomes Covestro

Bayer MaterialScience, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be separated from Bayer AG later this year, with the intention of being able to deploy its existing strengths even more rapidly, effectively and flexibly in the competitive global arena. Dymax Announces Acker, Miller Appointments

Dymax Corporation, Torrington, Connecticut, announces the appointments of Mike Acker as Americas sales manager and David S. Miller as territory sales manager. Acker will be responsible for achieving the Americas annual revenue targets in adhesives and equipment, while enhancing the commercial effectiveness of the Americas sales organization. Baghdachi Wins Tess Award in Coatings

Dr. Jamil Baghdachi, a professor of polymers and coatings at Eastern Michigan University, was announced as the winner of the American Chemical Society (ACS)’s 2015 Roy W. Tess Award in Coatings – an award recognizing outstanding individual achievements and noteworthy contributions to coatings science, technology and engineering. Among his many achievements, Baghdachi pioneered work in the application of stimuli responsive materials in coatings and has introduced new science significantly impacting surface coating technologies. He has been an active researcher in renewable resources, developing novel polymerization techniques to incorporate “green” chemistry. His expertise in corrosion, adhesion and polymerization techniques has led to invaluable contributions to the industry. EIT Announces 2016 Relocation Plans

EIT, LLC, a Sterling, Virginia-based electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider announced that it will be merging its operations facilities and headquarters into one location in Leesburg, Virginia. The company will be custom building a new 70,000 square-foot manufacturing and operations facility that should be ready for occupancy by September 2016. David Faliskie, president of EIT, said, “It’s a wonderful opportunity – allowing our team to work efficiently and cost effectively from one facility. GEW Wins EDP Award, New Nominations Sought

GEW, Crawley, England, was honored by the European Digital Press (EDP) Association during the 2015 FESPA show in Cologne. The company received an award in the Best Print Support Tool category for its LW1 LED UV-lamphead. Since 2007, EDP has evaluated and honored the best new developments in print production tools, software developments, substrates, inks, materials and finishing systems introduced in the European market. Honorees are selected based on their ability to improve speed, quality, usability and functionality or the ability to reduce environmental impact and cost to the user. Out of 100 entries, GEW’s lamphead was one of 20 products honored in 2015. The next submission period for EDP Award consideration began April 1, 2015, and will continue through March 30, 2016, for products officially introduced during that time.
