SUMMARY:Webinar: What It Really Takes to Move a Coil Line from Thermal to Energy Cure | October 15
DESCRIPTION:Get on the Road to RadTech 2027 with an upcoming webinar discussing what it really takes to move a coil line from thermal to energy cure. \nThe Great Conversion: What It Really Takes to Move a Coil Line from Thermal to Energy Cure \nDate: October 15\, 2026 \nTime: 12:00 to 1:00 PM EDT \nModerator: Eddie Baron\, AZZ Precoat \nPanelists: \n\nMike Bonner\, St. Clair Systems\nMichael Stucky\, PPG\nSebastien Villeneuve\, AkzoNobel Industrial Coatings\nKyle Kingsley\, The Sherwin-Williams Company\nRoger Salyers\, GFG Peabody\n\nRegister: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_17WgbGT9ToaSMsqYOH6ZeA \nWebinar Description: \nThe potential benefits of UV and EB curing for coil coating are compelling\, but for a coil coater considering an investment\, the questions are much more practical: What does it actually take to convert a line? What products can I run? Will they meet my customers’ performance requirements? And\, ultimately\, can I make the economics work? \nThis panel brings together an active coil coater and leading coating suppliers for a candid look at moving energy-curable coil coatings from promise to production. Panelists will examine the realities of retrofitting an existing thermal line versus designing a greenfield installation\, the practical differences among UV\, UV-LED\, and EB systems\, formulation requirements for comparable film build\, gloss\, flexibility\, and durability\, and the full capital and operating costs of conversion. \nThe panel will tackle one of the most critical questions facing potential adopters: Is there a viable path to market? From roofing and building panels to appliances and automotive\, panelists will explore where energy-curable chemistries meet current performance expectations\, where technical bottlenecks remain\, and where the technology can create value beyond energy savings alone. \nThis session zeroes in on the operational and commercial realities: \n\nMarket Viability: Product availability\, end-use qualifications\, and customer acceptance.\nLine Operations: Retrofit scope\, line flexibility between legacy thermal and UV/EB products\, and production speeds.\nTrue ROI: Applied cost versus solventborne systems\, capital payback\, and new process capabilities.\n\nAttendees will leave with a clear picture of where energy-cure coil coating stands today\, what a realistic conversion involves\, and what needs to happen over the next three to five years for broader commercial adoption. \nLearn more at https://radtech.org/blog/2026/09/14/the-great-conversion-what-it-really-takes-to-move-a-coil-line-from-thermal-to-energy-cure/

SUMMARY:PamJam with Mike Idacavage
DESCRIPTION:The Photopolymer Additive Manufacturing Alliance (PAMA)’s monthly research talk series will be coming to you live on Zoom next week! Mike Idacavage (Radical Curing\, LLC) will present his talk\, “UV Curable Photopolymer Additive Manufacturing (PAM) – Basics+” on Monday\, July 13 at 2:00-3:00PM ET. \nRegister for a zoom link at https://pama3d.org/PAM-JAM. \nAbstract: This seminar introduces the photopolymerization chemistry at the heart of Photopolymer Additive Manufacturing (PAM) and explores what makes this technology the growing success that it is. We’ll begin with an overview of free radical photopolymerizations– specifically acrylate and methacrylate systems\, which dominate the field. Beyond reaction mechanisms\, real-world PAM performance depends heavily on formulation. We’ll cover the key categories of raw materials and how they’re combined to hit specific performance targets. A brief look at hybrid systems will also be included. In addition to the basic chemistry\, We will compare the major vat-based platforms — SLA\, DLP\, and LCD-DLP — examining the advantages and disadvantages of each. The session closes with UV Inkjet\, a rapidly expanding segment of PAM that rounds out the current technology landscape. \nWhether you’re new to photopolymer additive manufacturing or looking to deepen your understanding of how chemistry and hardware intersect\, this seminar offers a practical\, structured foundation.

SUMMARY:RadTech Hosts a Q&A with Jennifer Heathcote of GEW for Comment Submission for EU RoHS Exemptions
DESCRIPTION:RadTech member organizations are strongly encouraged to submit comments by August 1\, 2026\, as the European Union considers the future of RoHS exemptions for mercury vapor gas discharge lamps. The outcome of this review could significantly impact the UV industry and its supply chain. \nThe periodic review of mercury vapor gas discharge lamps is currently underway under the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive. The current five-year exemptions for 4(a)-I and 4(f)-IV expire on February 24\, 2027. Oeko-Institut is managing the evaluation process and will make a recommendation to the European Commission after the stakeholder consultation period closes on August 1\, 2026. A new EU directive to renew\, revoke\, or further clarify the exemptions is expected in late 2026 or early 2027. \nAs part of the consultation process\, stakeholders are being asked to review three dossiers for 4(a)-I and four dossiers for 4(f)-IV\, then complete a six-point questionnaire and a seven-point questionnaire\, respectively. \nWe understand this is a complex issue to navigate. To help members better understand the public comment process and how to complete the questionnaires\, RadTech will host a 30-minute session with Jennifer Heathcote of GEW on Thursday\, June 25\, 2026\, at 1:00 PM ET. \nRegister here for the Q&A Session: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/zhNmAlo8SLKz17JA_awuxQ \nWe encourage all affected RadTech member organizations to participate in the session and submit comments before the August 1 deadline.
