SUMMARY:Low Extractable Biocompatible UV Adhesives for Wearable Devices Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Low Extractable Biocompatible UV Adhesives for Wearable Devices\nOctober 10\, 2024\, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EDT\nSpeaker: Samantha Leap\, Chemence \nRegister Here: https://radtech.org/blog/2024/08/08/webinar-low-extractable-biocompatible-uv-adhesives-for-wearable-devices/ \nWebinar Description:\nContinuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are quickly gaining popularity with an estimated 2 million patients due to their ease of use. This two-week wear device allows patients to automatically check glucose levels via their phone without the need to prick their fingers multiple times a day. While this technology has been revolutionary for diabetes patients\, the new device doesn’t come without issue. Skin irritation issues have been reported by patients wearing such devices caused from the UV adhesive used within the components of these devices. In fact\, this issue is not seen in just CGM devices\, but rather encompasses a much broader range of UV adhesives utilized in a variety of wearable devices. These wearable devices can be smart watches\, headphones\, GCMs\, or even electronic cigarettes. \nDeveloping safer\, more biocompatible\, less hazardous UV adhesives will immensely help users of all wearable devices. This research dives into the development of safer\, less hazardous UV adhesives by utilizing safer monomers and oligomers when formulating and ultimately ensuring these adhesives have less extractable and leachable unreacted materials. Testing via high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) yielded a 93% reduction in extractable materials when compared to a low viscosity\, grade 2 ISO-10993-5 cytotoxicity certified\, UV curable formulation utilized in needing bonding applications. This discussion comprises formulating strategies of both traditional acrylate adhesives and the benefits of adding in a thiol-ene as a reactive diluent. The addition of a thiol:ene as a reactive diluent yielded up to a 60% reduction in extractables by means HPLC and GSMS when compared to its pure acrylate counterpart. Adhesive requirements and their appropriate test methods\, biocompatibility\, and the future uses of low extractable UV adhesives will also be discussed at length. \nFor more information\, visit https://radtech.org/blog/2024/08/08/webinar-low-extractable-biocompatible-uv-adhesives-for-wearable-devices/. \n  \n.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Design of Experiments (DOE) Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Please join RadTech on April 16th for an Introduction to Design of Experiments (DOE) with Professor Allan Guymon of the University of Iowa. \nIntroduction to Design of Experiments (DOE)\nApril 16\, 2024\, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EDT\nProfessor Allan Guymon\, University of Iowa \nWebinar Overview:\nThis course will present an introduction to Design of Experiments (DOE)\, a technique allowing the maximum amount of information by performing the minimum number of experiments. Most experiments not based on DOE concepts\, are two-dimensional\, i.e. one variable is changed while a response is measured. DOE\, on the other hand\, varies all of the important variables simultaneously\, thereby examining the response(s) in many dimensions. While DOE is based on statistical principles\, primary emphasis will be placed on the motivation behind DOE as well as practical aspects in using and applying DOE. Students will gain experience in using DOE via simple experiments and assignments. \nRegister Now \n

SUMMARY:Eliminating VOC Emissions in Your Manufacturing Process and Much More with UV Coatings Technology Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Please join RadTech on March 7\, 2024\, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST to learn how to eliminate VOC emissions in your manufacturing process and much more with UV coatings technology. \nEliminating VOC emissions in your manufacturing process and much more with UV coatings technology\nMarch 7\, 2024\, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST \nSpeaker: Mike Kelly\, Allied PhotoChemical\, Inc. \nWebinar Overview:\nImagine being able to eliminate all VOC’s in your manufacturing process – Thousands of pounds of VOC’s per year\, while producing faster\, using a smaller physical footprint and less overall energy costs. \nCompanies today are aggressively exploring and implementing energy savings programs within their manufacturing facilities\, mainly due to the continued rate increases besieging manufacturing entities. Current powder and water/solvent-based paint operations utilize expensive gas\, IR ovens and induction heating\, whose operating costs have skyrocketed over the past several years. In addition\, some high VOC coatings require RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers) to combust known VOC’s / exhaust fumes\, adding to more costly energy expenditures. \nRegister at: https://radtech.org/eliminating-voc-emissions-in-your-manufacturing-process-and-much-more-with-uv-coatings-technology/

SUMMARY:Biodegradable Photopolymers: From Chemical Depolymerization to Soil Compostability Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Biodegradable photopolymers: from chemical depolymerization to soil compostability\nFriday\, February 23\, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EST\nSpeaker: Chen Wang\, University of Utah\nWebinar Overview:\nPhotopolymer materials are used in many commodity applications\, including adhesives\, over-print varnishes\, packaging materials\, and disposable medical devices such as contact lenses. The vast majority of photopolymer materials directly contribute to landfill waste as they are not recyclable or capable of biodegradation. Several reports have shown that chemical depolymerization of photopolymers can be achieved by incorporating labile bonds in multifunctional (meth)acrylate monomers. However\, demonstration of biodegradation such as soil compostability has been scarce. In this webinar\, I will discuss the progress of polymer chemistry towards biodegradable photopolymers. I will also discuss a recent work from our group at the University of Utah\, where we investigated the soil compostability of thiol-ene based photopolymers. We found that thiol-ene photopolymers containing oligo-caprolactone groups were susceptible to 55-83% biodegradation through biochemical oxygen demand testing with activated sludge. We were able to completely disintegrate these polymers in compost at 58 ºC and 76 ± 1 % humidity through soil disintegration testing. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:RadTech - Photopolymerizations for Creating Engineered Microenvironments: From 3D Culture Models to Biomanufacturing Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. April M. Kloxin\, University of Delaware\nModerator: Dr. Dianne Poster\, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)\nFebruary 13\, 2024\, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST \nREGISTER NOW\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_8uzy37okTc6A74HunqEjgg \nWebinar Overview:\nPhotopolymerizations provide great opportunities for the creation of controlled\, bioinspired microenvironments for probing and directing complex biological systems. For example\, photopolymerizations can be utilized to create reductionist synthetic extracellular matrices (ECMs) with tunable biophysical and biochemical properties for asking questions about the role of different microenvironment cues in tissue regeneration and disease processes or for promoting desired cellular functions for therapeutic applications. In this arena\, we recently have designed well-defined photopolymerized hydrogels inspired by common sites in the human body (e.g.\, bone marrow\, lungs) for the late recurrence of breast cancer. We have applied these photopolymerized 3D cultures\, along with a range of molecular tools\, to dissect different cell-matrix and cell-cell interactions in breast cancer dormancy and re-activation and evaluate therapeutic strategies for preventing late recurrence. Additionally\, for enhancing the production of cell therapies\, we collaboratively have established a modular manufacturing platform that combines photopolymerized hydrogel coatings with commercial flow-based membrane devices for improved activation\, expansion\, and transduction of human T-cells. Together\, our results demonstrate the great utility of photopolymerizations for the creation of soft biomaterials with precisely controlled properties for addressing outstanding needs in improving human health.

SUMMARY:Road to RadTech 2024 Webinar: Automated\, High Throughput Screening of Increased Ionic Conductivity Polymer Electrolytes
DESCRIPTION:January 19\, 2024\, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST\nSpeaker: Dr. Johanna J. Schwartz\, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory\nModerator: Dr. Jason Killgore\, National Institute of Standards and Technology \nREGISTER NOW at:\nhttps://radtech.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=83d3a9670791311154f15cd20&id=e160169d87&e=c9b0bea849 \nWebinar Overview\nAdvancement of increased ionic conductivity polymer electrolyte materials for Li-ion battery applications has traditionally required formulations to be hand-mixed by researchers\, limiting progress and adding potential batch-to-batch variability. Through our Studying-Polymers-On a-Chip (SPOC) platform\, we seek to solve the challenge of developing safe\, stable\, and cost effective batteries. We do so by accelerating screening of polymer electrolyte materials through integration of additive manufacturing\, impedance characterization\, and machine learning experimental planning systems. Various monomers\, salts\, and nanoparticle fillers were screened to modify the amorphous character in semicrystalline polyethylene glycol-based polymer electrolytes. Ultimately\, long-term cycling\, aging\, and stability measurements need to be made for identified polymer electrolytes to be useful for battery applications. The end of the talk will discuss some of our ongoing SPOC platform developments to create and couple high-throughput aging and degradation assessments into our screening platform.
