Letter to the Editor: An Open Letter to Various Journals

Today, there exists a “decarbonization” and “net zero” solution that could stem the advance of global climate change. It is a mature, proven technology that can be utilized by a large and diverse array of manufacturing industries. It is a technology that could eliminate or significantly reduce carbon emissions and other toxic volatile organic compounds.

To effect its widespread adoption will require a commitment from large chemical producers to relinquish their continued investment in incremental improvements to their existing product portfolios and redirect those resources to further development of this technology and to broadening the applications in which it could be used.

It will also require that corporate boards of directors, shareholders, customers and consumers speak out and demand that corporations and governments do all that is within their power to ensure, that where applicable, it is mandated as the environmentally proactive production process of choice (BACT, Best Available Control Technology).

It is up to us, collectively and as individuals, to demand change and as a community pursue a strategic transformation. One that elevates UV/EB curing technology to its rightful place as a solution to the reduction of the negative effects of global climate change.

UV/EB technology should no longer be viewed as a niche industrial manufacturing technology, but be established as a practical and implementable solution that can make a significant contribution to the achievement of the global targets for decarbonization and net zero directives.
